Examples of Traditional First Nations Governments
Here we look at 3 examples of First Nation's governments. Looking at these examples students were to draw a diagram that would best represent how these gov'ts work. We will compare these traditional forms of Gov't to Sections 74-86 of the Indian Act.
Using the video below, Rick Mercer - Everything you wanted to know about Canada but were too afraid to ask, we will compare these forms to our Canadian gov't and pull out the aspects of all 4 of these systems and see what characteristics make the most sense to us.

Responses to the White Paper Assignment
Imaging the year is 1969. The federal Government has just announced that they would like to get rid of the Indian Act, it makes all Canadians equal under the law. No person or group of people are treated differently.
You see this differently, because of the federal gov't, you and your people have been treated differently. The gov't may say everyone is equal under the law doesn't neccessarily mean that everyone is equal in society. In addition, everything that the gov't has proposed or legisalated for First Nations people as been negative. Your goal is to raise awareness against the proposed change in gov't
Your options are:
1) Create a poster or pamphlet
2) Write a song
3) Create a video
Use the information below or google, The White Paper, Citizens Plus, The Brown Paper, Harold Cardinal
